The Last BeeGee: Barry Gibb's emotional interview

The emotional moment

LJD Manx Fella :

As a childhood friend of all three of the lads (Andy hadn't been born), I keep trying to get to the end of this interview without being in floods of tears. Not least because I know Barry was just 100% Barry throughout the whole interview. No ego, no heirs and graces. Just a mate whose "job" was to write and sing songs with his brothers. It's hard... I mean really hard, to see him surrounded by his big, beautiful family, yet at the same time, he feels like a man alone without Mo and Rob around. I know from personal experience, that the worst thing about getting older, isn't creaking bones, gaining a few extra pounds, or losing your hair. No. The worst thing (by far) is losing family members and lifetime friends who all played a part in making you the person you ultimately become. Sorry to be so downbeat, but that's just how I feel today. May your God bless you, whoever and wherever you are today x.

Michael B :

My cousin used to tutor Barry and Linda's kids at their home for years. He got to know the family, and even met his brothers before they passed. Most humble celebrities on the earth in my opinion. He still gets an Xmas card from them every year.

All about Bee Gees'

Lesley Evans

Lesley Barbara Evans (née Gibb) is an English singer, daughter of musician Hugh Gibb and sister of English musicians Barry, Robin and Maurice and Andy Gibb.

Lesley Gibb was born on 12 January 1945 in Manchester, Lancashire, England. She is the only daughter and eldest child of drummer Hugh Leslie Gibb and his wife Barbara (née Pass) who was a dance band vocalist.

In 1966 Lesley married Keith Evans, an Australian salesman who was also once her brother Barry's assistant and they had eight children. They live in the Blue Mountains National Park in Australia, where Lesley ran a dog boarding kennel.

The least well known of the Gibb musical family, Lesley had a brief singing career when she stood in for Robin Gibb after a family argument. When Robin left the Bee Gees in March 1969, Leslie appeared with the band on Talk of the Town, aired on BBC 2 on 17 May 1969. She later said: “I secretly became the fourth Bee Gee."  However, unlike her famous brothers, Lesley did not enjoy performing on stage and said: "I was petrified, all those people watching, I almost burst into tears". Lesley performed "Give Your Best" with Ian MacLeod which was included on his album Restless. The song was written by her brothers. Although Lesley toyed with the idea of a singing career she had recently given birth to twins and decided to return to Australia to become a housewife and later dog breeder. She later said: "It was amazing. I loved it ... but it wasn't for me. I had my twins to get back to and Robin came back soon after."

Personal Life and Children
Gibb married Molly Hullis in 1968, and they had two children together, Spencer and Melissa. After drifting apart and separating for several years, the couple finally divorced in 1980. Gibb then married author and artist Dwina Murphy Gibb, who gave birth to his third child, son Robin-John, or RJ, in 1983.

Death and Legacy
In 2010, Gibb began to struggle with severe abdominal pain, similar to what Maurice had experienced before his death in 2003. In August 2010, Gibb underwent emergency surgery for a blocked intestine. The following year, he was hospitalized three times. He was later diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Gibb claimed to have beaten his illness, telling the press in February 2012 that he had undergone chemotherapy and achieved "spectacular" results. But by late March, the singer was back in the hospital for intestinal surgery. Gibb had to cancel a number of appearances but still hoped to make the April 10, 2012 premiere of Titanic Requiem in London.

Sadly, Gibb could not make it the concert because he came down with pneumonia. He slipped into a coma a few days later. At a London hospital, Gibb was surrounded by family, including his wife Dwina and their son RJ. His two children from his first marriage, Spencer and Melissa, were also present. Gibb regained consciousness in late April. "It is a testament to Robin's extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now," one of his doctors told the press in April 2012.

Despite his determination, Gibb was not able to overcome his illness. He died in London on May 20, 2012, at the age of 62, after a long battle with cancer.
